WAKE UP: ALERT

Last week we read about preparing. This week we need to be alert. We need to know who our friends are, we need to distinguish between the voice of God and the voice. We need to know what to share and what not to share. We need to be quick to notice any unusual and potentially dangerous situations. We need to be vigilant.

To be alert, you need the Spirit of Discernment. This means knowing what is from God and what is not from God. I wrote in the first wake up blog that I discovered writing was a gift and writing was preparing me for this blog. But discernment played a very big role in starting this blog and after. In July was when I felt the need to start my blog but I just wasn’t sure. I kept thinking “Do I want to create this for the sake of creating it, or am I creating it cause I feel a need to?”. It went through my mind for months. Every time I thought of it, I kept thinking “What if people hate it? What if I can’t keep up with it? What if no one reads it? What if this? What if that?”. I then read "A Call to Courage" by Michal Ann Goll, then I got inspired to do it.

My first post I was very nervous. I had a lot of doubts before I posted it. I thought maybe I shouldn’t but I did. I got over all of that and posted it and the feedback I got wasn’t bad at all. That moment I felt that if I listened to all of the “this isn’t good this is bad” thoughts, I would have never done it. To be honest, I still had doubts after, then God literally clearly showed me that I’m doing the right thing by starting this blog and that it was part of my purpose. The reason why I’m sharing this story is to help you know that even though God speaks to us, the devil also speaks. The devil always whispers to us that we won’t be good at it, it won’t go well and everything so if you’re not careful and if you don’t have the spirit of discernment to know that’s it isn’t from God, you’ll end up leaving the great plans God has for you.

The devil doesn’t only make you feel bad about something but it sometimes pushes you into doing something bad. Personally, how I went about discovering what was from God and what was from the devil us by saying “If it is good, it’s from God, if it is bad, it’s the devil”. The devil won’t tell you to give to people, the devil won’t tell you to love everyone. The devil is most likely to tell you to not help that person, or don’t join that prayer group today. Discernment is like a skill, a very important skill. Tonight, pray for that spirit. Discernment plus vigilance plus prayer is a great tool. No one will be able to trick you into something ungodly. Pray constantly, tell God to help you to become alert. When you’re alert, you become aware of your temptations. When you’re aware of your temptations, you can put a stop to it or shift from it. Everyone can be tempted.

Even Jesus was tempted by Satan in Matthew 4:1-11. However, He never fell for it. Why? Because He knows what the word of God says about what Satan wanted him to do. To help you with your temptations, learn what the Bible says about what tempts you. Find a specific verse that says that and anytime you’re tempted, say it over and over again before the temptation is gone. We have the power to do a lot of things but it’s about us knowing the word of God, the voice of God and the will of God. Let’s be alert of everything around us in order to stand firm against them. God bless you all.

Prayer: Our Heavenly Father we thank you for this day. God today as we read this, give us the spirit of discernment. Let us know what’s from you and what’s not from you. Help us to flee away from our temptations Lord. We thank you and we bless your name, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
