Revelations 3:20
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”
This is one of my favourite verses. It reminds me that there is a difference between how we are approached by God and how the devil also approaches us. It says in John 10:10 that “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy”…you see what I mean. You can just tell the difference.
I remember back in my first year of university when I was going to get a visitor, they had to tell me in advance before they came. This is because first of all if they don’t tell me they are coming, they’ll knock so many times and I won’t hear. And secondly, who goes to someone’s house without their permission? People that just turn up without asking you are just…I’ll leave my sentence there. But we see in Revelation 3 that God asks a person’s permission before He enters their house. The word “knock” is the permission there. The verse didn’t say I stand at your door, knock and barge in. It says “If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in”. I will wait until you tell me to come in. I won’t come in without your permission. That’s what God is saying.
The thing is most of us haven’t still come to Christ because God doesn’t force Himself in. If you say no, He allows your free will to take over. The gentleman ways of God prevents Him to do anything that will come across as forceful. If we allow ourselves, we get to see the best part about that verse. It says “I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” Wow. Sharing a meal with your friends is like one of the best things ever. You get to reminisce about the past, laugh and enjoy yourselves. God wants that kind of relationship with you. I don’t know about you but if you are not my friend, I feel very uncomfortable eating with you. Therefore, eating with someone is like a close bonding thing. That’s what Jesus wants with us. A bond. Open up and allow God to enter. The bestfriend you can ever have is God. When everyone is busy, distant, unavailable, God is always available…24/7. Let God enter and enjoy your times together as friends. May God bless you.
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father we thank you for today. We thank you for this day and an opportunity to spend time with us. Today we pray that you come in and spend time with us. We pray for a bond with with. We thank you and we bless you in Jesus name, amen.
