THE GOOD SAMARITAN

We thank God for another week and we thank Him for his grace. From the title, you already know where I am going with this. If you don’t know the Good Samaritan story, it’s in Luke 10:30-37. It’s about a man that got attacked and was left half dead on the street. A priest walked by and saw him but walked past. A temple assistant also came and saw him and also walked past. Then came the Good Samaritan who cleaned his wound and took him to a place and paid for him to sleep. The beautiful thing he even did was telling the innkeeper to look after him and if he has to pay more, he will.
Let’s imagine this in our normal lives. When we see people on the street, we become the priest and the temple assistant and we walk past. We always say to ourselves “I don’t know this person, this is not my business” but we need to remember that everyone is our brother and everyone is our sister and we need to be kind to everyone. So this message came to me on Friday when I went to placement. There was these two old women that came to the hospital, one was the patient and the other old woman was her carer, and cause they have been waiting from 12pm to like 5pm, they were hungry. So I was doing an ECG on the patient and I heard them saying they are very hungry and where I was working, you are not allowed to give patients food. If we are, I don’t know but I have never seen anyone being offered food there. These people were like in their sixties. So they asked me if they can get something to eat and I said I’m not sure if that’s allowed but I’ll see what I could.
I asked around and I ended up making a cup of tea for them and sneaking in some sandwiches. In my head I only thought “yeah I am giving these people a sandwich. Sandwich is just sandwich". The lady said “God bless you” and I actually thought “giving a sandwich can get someone to bless me”. So I just brushed it off but before she left the hospital, she was like “I will never forget this kindness you’ve showed me” and that was when I just thought, what you think doesn’t mean much really means much. It doesn’t matter, as little as you could do, do it.
Kindness is hard sometimes especially when you know you don’t know the person or the person wouldn’t do the same for you. But I have learnt that it doesn’t matter if the person will do it for you or not. Ephesians 4:32 says “we should be kind”. Jesus was kind, so we need to follow his footsteps. Sometimes money is tight but if you need to show kindness through financial means, go for it. You are so busy, but if you need to show kindness through sacrificing your time, do. Kindness comes in different forms so let’s find some sort of form and demonstrate it. You never know what you are doing for the person and the benefits of it. This week, let’s show kindness and see how far that will take us.
Prayer: Father we thank you once more. We bless your Holy name. Lord, this week give us the power to show people kindness. Let us be kind to people we know and people we don’t know. Show us and lead us in showing kindness and love. We bless you, in Jesus name, amen.
