STARVATION AT ITS FINEST

My friend Google explained “starvation” as suffering or death caused by lack of food. I cannot stress how food is important. Food helps us grow. It gives us nutrients. It sustains the body. There are some people when they hear the word “food”, their world lights up. Some people cannot go an hour without food…seriously. They will just drop death. God knows that for our physical body to survive, we need food. We need to eat. Yes. Chicken and chips is important. The lobsters, the steak, the fufu and groundnut soap, the eba and egusi soup…yes all of those are important. But we forget that our spirit being also needs to be fed. The Bible says, "a man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God" (Matthew 4:4). As believers, our food is the word. Our spirit being needs the word to survive. Is your spirit starving? Is your spirit hungry?

The Bible says in John 6:27 that Do not labour for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.There are some of us that will give 6000 excuses when we have to fast. “But if I don’t eat I’ll become skinny” or “there is a chance of getting an ulcer if I don’t eat” or “How can I function without food?” It is good to eat, let me not lie to you because God wants us to take care of ourselves, but my point is, we can make excuses when it comes to not getting our physical food, but the same energy is never applied to the spiritual aspect. Have you said to yourself “my spirit will go dull if I don’t study the Word?”

The way life is, we need to sit up and take action. We are at war and you need to be prepared. Remember in the Bible when Satan came to tempt Jesus…remember? What weapon did Jesus use? The Word. If you have no words stored in your heart, what weapon are you going to use when the devil comes to tempt you? Your desire to know the word should increase. Learn the word. It’s your weapon. It’s your food. Do not let your spirit starve. Feed your spirit. Feed your spirit. Feed your spirit. Learning one verse a day will not harm you. Make time for the word. It’s not about just reading the verse of the day because you don’t want your Bible streak to die. It’s not about feeling bad so then you just quickly scan through that verse of the day. Desire to know more. Investigate the words. Ask God “what does this mean?” Sit with Him as He explains it. If you don’t have time to do it at home, do it at work, do it on the bus, in your car, on the train. Do not let your spirit starve. Give it light by giving it the word. Feed your spirit! Feed your spirit! Feed your spirit! May God bless you as you take this in and work on it.

Prayer: Our Heavenly Father we thank you for your word. Your word is a lamp unto our feet and a light onto our path. God Your word has everything we need. Today we pray that you help us as we help ourselves feed our spirit. Let the Word be the water we want and the nutrients we need. Let us be connected with the word. This we ask you in Jesus name, amen.
